Stuff the Bus will be held on August 20, 2022, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at Staples in New Bern, 3230 Dr. MLK, Jr., Blvd. Official advance drop-off locations and a shopping list are listed on the PIE website at https://cravenpartners.com/. Each school’s specific list is on its website. Help us get those much-needed school supplies into the hands of our students who have been identified as in need. If you know a child in need, contact the child's principal and/or school counselor for supply distribution.

The SUAH African Dance Theater will present a West African dance performance and workshop for folks to learn traditional dances. Children from the Boys & Girls Club of Coastal Plain will be part of the performance and workshop. This event is hosted by Arts to End Genocide (ATEG) in partnership with the B&GCCP and Faith Connection to benefit ATEG's programs focused on children living in the Faladje IDP Camp in Bamako, Mali, West Africa. These programs include medical care, food distribution, and a Women's Skills Training Program.

On January 4, 2022 Brittany Cass was traveling home from a church meeting on Hwy 70 and was hit head on by a drunk driver. Brittany was transported by ambulance to the Carteret Hospital and then immediately life flighted to Vidant in Greenville. Brittany had life saving abdominal surgery, broke both her femurs, fractured her left hip, her tailbone and her back. After abdominal surgery, the orthopedic team went to work on her legs. They placed metal in her left leg from her hip to left knee, then started repairing her shattered right knee with screws and additional metal up her right femur. Brittany finally woke up after five grueling days of the unknown.

Brittany has since gone through rigorous physical and occupational therapy to learn how to navigate life in a wheelchair. Her home was reconfigured to become wheelchair accessible as her dinning room became her makeshift bedroom. Brittany had to use a bedside commode and was bedridden for months to allow her body to heal. She has since learned how to stand, put weight through both of her legs and learned as a 32 year old woman how to walk again. This journey has been grueling, painful and is far from over. She is still adjusting her life to her new reality. As physical therapy and doctors appointments continue to help determine how to help new issues arising, she is positive and hopeful to get back to running some day.

Even though Brittany is on the road to recovery, others are not as fortunate. This race is to help bring awareness to the dangers of drinking and driving in Craven and Carteret counties. Brittany lives in Craven county but her accident happened in Carteret county. All proceeds will go towards Bold Like Britt Co. and MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) to support funds to educate kids about the dangers of drinking & driving along with supporting checkpoints in these counties. This has been life altering for Brittany and her family, along with so many of her family and friends. Please help us bring awareness to this as it can be 100% prevented.

The 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run is at Martin Marrietta Park. The 5K will go around the reservoir. It will start and end at the playground. The 1 Mile Fun Run will loop around the playground and reservoir. Both courses are on a dirt trail.

Craven County Master Gardeners are hosting a fund raising catered dinner and dessert auction. Ticket sales support Master Gardeners programs, tours and gardens. Ticket information can be found on Eventbrite.com.

Harborfest for HeartWorks 2022 will have live music, dancing and a Live Auction on Saturday Sept 24 followed by an Online Auction from Sept 25 to Oct 2, 2022 @5:00PM Saturday’s Gala begins @ 5:30 with an Open Bar, a gourmet buffet by The Chelsea of New Bern, music by The Entertainers, and a raucous Live Auction where you can bid and win fabulous trips, oyster roasts, works of art, basketball tickets and more. Online Auction items will be on display. The event will be held at HeartWorks, 709 Main Street Bayboro. The Filling Station, Pollocksville’s food pantry and community resource is hosting its 2nd annual fundraiser, Jones County – A Perfect 10, on Saturday, October 1, from 10:00 to 5:00 along beautiful 10 Mile Fork Road in Jones County. This is a lovely opportunity to enjoy a day of country living and support the Filling Station. Our mission is to assist with filling the unmet needs in the areas of nutrition, education and connection serving the residents of Jones County. We are proud to have Carolina East Health System as our Title Sponsor again this year.
What to do: This fundraiser offers activities at eight sites along a five mile stretch of
10 Mile Fork Rd conveniently located near Pollocksville, Trenton and River Bend. These sites include:

• Jones’ Best! – Test your skills on the Sheriff’s climbing wall, and check out our Fire, EMS equipment, ham radios, and a NC Forest Service display.
• Z.A.K.’S – A unique country store. Shop, enjoy cider and ginger snaps, just be sure to share some with the goat.
• Hayride – Take a hayride along a country lane, check out the sheep and enjoy playing corn hole.
• Animals – Feed carrots to the donkey and horse and check out the Castaway’s puppy adoption event.
• Tree Farm – Walk the trails and be Bearwise with a presentation by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.
• Moosic – Relax and enjoy music along with the cows and calves across the road.
• Things from Yesteryear – This museum is full of vintage treasures.
• Kitty’s Korner Etc – Let your creativity bloom as you paint a ceramic souvenir to take home.
• Cow Pie Bingo
• Food Trucks
How to participate:
• No tickets needed! Just show up and “Do as much as you can! – Donate as much as you can!”

• Water and Porta-Johns will be available.
• Donation boxes will be available at each site. Please use them!

Cow Pie Bingo:
• Bingo tickets are $10 each, available at the Filling Station and webpage
• A ticket buys a numbered square and a chance to win 10% of the pot. A cow will be put out in a small pasture that has been lined to create the squares and she will select the winner the day of the event.

NC Stop Human Trafficking will be hosting its annual fall fundraiser BBQ, Bluegrass & Brew on from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Barn on Saint Andrews, 400 Saint Andrews Drive, Greenville. Join the Beaufort Historical Association for its annual Fall Fundraising Party. This year the party will take place on the grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site (130 Turner St). Looking for the perfect way to have a delicious pancake breakfast before visiting Santa in Bear Plaza, taking in some shopping, and enjoying the many activities happening during the holiday season in beautiful, historic downtown New Bern?

New Bern, North Carolina’s Colonial Capital, literally transforms into a wonderland the entire Christmas season. Streetlights and storefronts are decorated, and the community comes together to create a magical time for kids young and old. Amidst the busy bustle, Adam and Candice Simmons, owners of a downtown New Bern landmark, Morgan’s Tavern & Grill, take time out of their busy holiday schedule for a special day on Saturday, December 3, from 7:00 am – 10:00 am, to serve up over 500 delicious pancake breakfasts for Pancakes for PIE (Partners In Education).

Morgan’s will be festively decorated for the holiday season and is the perfect setting to start your day with pancakes, bacon, sausage, fruit, orange juice, coffee, and water. All this for just $7 per adult and $5 for children 12 and under. Reservations are not required as this is a pay-at-the-door event. Debit, credit cards, checks, and cash are accepted. To expedite seating, please have checks or cash ready.

This event has become known all over the region as a “must do” before starting a day of shopping and attending Christmas-themed events held during New Bern’s Beary Merry Christmas season.

Jason Jones, PIE President, explains, “This event is an excellent opportunity for our community to show their support for Craven County Schools. Morgan’s generously donates all proceeds from Pancakes for PIE to fund grant programs in Craven County Schools through Partners In Education. The Morgan’s staff, along with PIE volunteers, will be dressed in Christmas-themed sweaters and Santa caps to greet and serve you.”

Brandy Popp, Chair of the PIE Fund Raising Committee, explains, “It is so very giving of Adam and Candice Simmons and their employees to provide the staffing, food, and venue for this event. We all know Morgan’s dishes up excellent food, and our volunteers are always up for serving some ‘PIE’!
