Join us on March 14 for an engaging talk and demonstration exploring Annie Kinney Villa’s painting process and artistic perspective. Annie is the February and March Featured Artist in the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery.
The talk will be held at the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center, located at 130 Turner Street, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Complimentary coffee, refreshments, and light bites will be available.
This event is FREE, but RSVPs are required. Please call the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center at 252-728-5225 to reserve a seat. Guests are encouraged to attend the talk and visit the gallery to view Annie’s featured exhibit!

Join East Carolina University for an evening panel at Sheppard Memorial Library featuring Latina cultural creators from the Carolinas. This conversation brings together distinct voices from our broader region who explore storytelling, identity, and community in their creative writing. In collaboration with Hablemos Escritoras, the conversation will form part of a future podcast episode, extending its reach beyond campus and into national and international literary networks. The New Bern Historical Society invites you to an exciting storytelling event, the Hallowed Ground Lantern Tour, March 19, 20 & 21, 6-9pm. New Bern Battlefield Park, site of the first Battle of New Bern, hosts this intriguing event. The tour takes you on a guided, lantern-lit walk through the wooded battlefield trails, where spirits of real characters from New Bern's past will share their very human and inspiring stories of courage and conviction.
As you visit, you will hear, a firsthand account about the daring raid to capture a Union gunboat, about those who fled and those who stayed in New Bern after the battle, from nursing nuns from New York who came to help the wounded, and about maritime involvement in the battle. That’s just to name a few.
Historical Society Executive Director, Anthony Giardino is excited about this compelling storytelling event. “Take part in this important immersive event standing at the exact spot of the March 14th, 1862 Battle of New Bern. You’ll encounter our meticulously preserved Battlefield Park and hear gripping tales and history of the era delivered by our most talented local actors and reenactors.”
Pre-paid reservations are required with specific day & arrival time. Tickets are $16 for Historical Society adult members, students, and active-duty military; $19 adult non-members. Space is limited. World Math Day runs for 48 hours, starting on March 25 in Australia and on March 24 in most U.S. locations (due to time differences). It is the world’s largest online math competition, an international celebration of mathematics where 10 million students have answered more than 1 Billion questions. World Math Day is FREE for all and is hosted on the Mathletics platform. All registrants have free access to Mathletics starting on March 12: https://www.3plearning.com/world-Math-day. The 2026 theme, United by Numbers, celebrates the belief that everyone can learn and excel at mathematics when given the right support. Teachers and students need not be Mathletics users to participate.

Three Sound Rivers staffers recently completed the trip of a lifetime - a 12 day, 175 mile kayak journey down the Tar River. Throughout the trip, the three paddlers were able to highlight the recreational value of the Tar River, document any water quality issues affecting the river, and gained plenty of interesting stories.
