Did you know, North Carolina's Mountains-to-Sea Trail runs right through New Bern? Carolina Nature Coalition is offering you a chance to walk the New Bern portion of the trail. Jim Grode*, Trail Resource Manager for Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, and Michael Schachter, President of CNC, will guide you from the spectacular vista at Lawson Creek Park, to Leander Morgan Park (named for the 1st and only Black Mayor of New Bern), followed by the panorama of Palace Point Common, then on to the cool comfort of the NC History Center where you can linger to recharge. From the Center you can choose to follow the trail further to Union Point Park, or retrace your steps to meet up with your tansports where the walk began - Lawson Creek Park. Total walk time - Approximately 1 hour. Bottled water will be provided. Carolina Nature Coalition invites you to join us on the MST New Bern walk, Saturday, August 20th @ 9:15 AM*(pronounced Grodee)
Come enjoy a day outside with the Beekeepers of the Neuse as we celebrate National Honey Bee Day. The whole family will enjoy learning about the mighty honey bee. There will be kids crafts, beeswax candle dipping, gardening information and a live observation hive where you can watch the bees working and search for the queen. Learn about the bees’ life cycle and see honey extracted. Enjoy antique farm equipment and food vendors. Local raw honey will be available for purchase to support the efforts of Beekeepers of the Neuse. Baxter’s Bees will be selling health and beauty items based on products from the hive.Mark your calendar for this event and be amazed by the importance of the honey bee! Beekeepers of the Neuse is a non-profit honey bee club promoting knowledge and education of the honey bee. Beekeepers of the Neuse is the Wayne Chapter of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association.

The Filling Station, Pollocksville’s food pantry and community resource is hosting its 2nd annual fundraiser, Jones County – A Perfect 10, on Saturday, October 1, from 10:00 to 5:00 along beautiful 10 Mile Fork Road in Jones County. This is a lovely opportunity to enjoy a day of country living and support the Filling Station. Our mission is to assist with filling the unmet needs in the areas of nutrition, education and connection serving the residents of Jones County. We are proud to have Carolina East Health System as our Title Sponsor again this year. What to do: This fundraiser offers activities at eight sites along a five mile stretch of 10 Mile Fork Rd conveniently located near Pollocksville, Trenton and River Bend. These sites include:
• Jones’ Best! – Test your skills on the Sheriff’s climbing wall, and check out our Fire, EMS equipment, ham radios, and a NC Forest Service display.• Z.A.K.’S – A unique country store. Shop, enjoy cider and ginger snaps, just be sure to share some with the goat.• Hayride – Take a hayride along a country lane, check out the sheep and enjoy playing corn hole.• Animals – Feed carrots to the donkey and horse and check out the Castaway’s puppy adoption event.• Tree Farm – Walk the trails and be Bearwise with a presentation by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.• Moosic – Relax and enjoy music along with the cows and calves across the road.• Things from Yesteryear – This museum is full of vintage treasures.• Kitty’s Korner Etc – Let your creativity bloom as you paint a ceramic souvenir to take home.• Cow Pie Bingo• Food TrucksHow to participate:• No tickets needed! John Lawson Legacy Days is hosted by the Grifton Historical Museum. Come join us to travel back in time and celebrate pioneer heritage Friday, October 21st, from 6 pm- 9 pm and Saturday, October 22nd, from 9 am - 5 pm. We will have live entertainment, cannon firings, reactors, pioneer craft demonstrations, and historical speakers. The museum will be serving soup on Friday night, butter beans and sausage Saturday afternoon. Shazam food truck will be serving breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Come enjoy this free event and tour the Grifton Museum with the whole family.

The Mattie King Davis Art Gallery presents Lisa Tuchek, Mandy Johnson, and Jimmy Craig Womble on Friday, December 2 at 4:30 p.m. All local artists, this trio creates vibrant and beautiful pieces the depict coastal life. Don’t miss this free show! They will also be the select artists for the Beaufort Historic Site’s Candlelight Tour and take part in the Beaufort Art Walk. Both events take place on December 10.
