Oct 30 Thursday
Literacy Connections invites the community to raise a glass in support of local literacy at Reading Between the Wines, an evening of wine tastings, stories, and shared inspiration on Thursday, October 30. The fundraiser begins at 5:30 pm with a reception in the Terrace Room, featuring fine wines from Healthabit, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and the company of two of NC’s most celebrated authors—Clyde Edgerton and Jason Mott.
Clyde, a novelist, musician, artist, and retired professor of creative writing at UNCW, and Jason, a professor at UNCW whose novel Hell of a Book won the 2021 National Book Award, both share the experience of growing up in Eastern North Carolina. While their writing styles differ greatly, their works are deeply shaped by this shared Southern heritage, reflecting the region’s complexities in unique and personal ways.
Following the reception, guests will stroll to the Paramount Theatre, where Edgerton and Mott will take the stage at 7:30 pm with their signature storytelling—authentic, Southern, and delightfully entertaining.
All proceeds benefit Literacy Connections, a nonprofit that provides free literacy services in Wayne County. In addition to programs that equip adults and families with essential skills, Literacy Connections also manages the youth-run bookstore, Round About Books and the historic Terrace Room event venue. Guests will enjoy a memorable evening and invest in the power of reading to transform lives.
Both author’s books, including Mott’s newest novel, People Like Us (August 2025) will be available for sale at Round About Books and at the event.VIP tickets are $75, general admission $40. For tickets or sponsorship opportunities, visit literacyconnectionsofwaynecounty.org or call 919.735.1990.
