A fun old-time variety show with great music, stories, and special guests in the style of radio variety shows of yesteryear, hosted and presented by New Bern’s favorite string band, The Bonafides.

Hubby Jenkins is an American multi-instrumentalist who studies and performs old-time American music. He is a former member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops and the Rhiannon Giddens band, and has been nominated for Grammy and Americana awards.

Hubby Jenkins endeavors to share his love and knowledge of old-time American music. Born and raised in Brooklyn he delved into his southern roots, following the thread of African American history that wove itself through America’s traditional music forms. Hubby has performed at festivals and venues around the world, earning himself both Grammy and Americana award nominations. Today he spreads his knowledge and love of old-time American music through his dynamic solo performances and engaging workshops.

The award-winning ECSU University Choir returns to celebrate the holidays with timeless harmonies and a spirit of unity and joy.

Community Connections: Performance and Lecture Series bridges Elizabeth City State University and community. Our mission is to produce cultural experiences which can be enjoyed by students, faculty, and staff, as well as the community at large. Our past guests include: Nikki Giovanni, Terrence J, Kierra Sheard, 9th Wonder, the Virginia Symphony, Leila Fadel, Tshombe Shelby, Marc Hill, the cast of A Different World, and the US Navy Band. Boomerang LIVE JukeBox is a popular New Bern based nostalgic trio that performs concerts featuring iconic music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. NBCT is pleased to welcome Epy, Mike and Tom to The Athens stage for their holiday special, A Very BOOMY Christmas, a light-hearted, comedic production about Christmases of yesteryear. It is a multi-media event with live music performances and accompanying large-screen video presentations of traditional sing-alongs as well as humorous holiday tunes. This professional trio knows how to show an audience a great time. A Very BOOMY Christmas is appropriate for all ages - so bring the kids and make it a family affair!

This all-new holiday spectacular features the mind-bending magic of Bryan Sanders paired with singing duo Lewis n Clark for an unforgettable experience live on The Athens stage filled with laughter, wonder, and festive cheer. A family-friendly Encore Series event!

For over 30 years, Molasses Creek’s high-energy performances and heartfelt songwriting has brought the love of their coastal home of Ocracoke Island to the stage. The band’s elegant harmonies and arrangements, stellar songwriting, blazing instrumentals, and quirky sense of humor have won loyal followers throughout the US, around the world, and most especially in Eastern NC.

Molasses Creek has recorded 15 albums, reaching the #4 and #5 spots on the National Folk Radio DJ Charts. Their latest releases, Catch the Wind, Waterbound, and People Get Ready have received acclaim from audiences across the country.

As to defining their style, nobody puts Molasses Creek in a box. But however it’s described, their style has manifested in a 30 year run of unpredictable and delightful musical choices. Each member contributes ideas and original music. They move between whimsical and sincere in a way that makes you believe that balancing both might be the key to life. The four members of Molasses Creek are: Gary Mitchell - Guitar/Vocals, Fiddler Dave Tweedie - Fiddle/Vocals, Kim France - Bass/Guitar/Vocals, Gerald Hampton - Mandolin/Bass/Guitar.
