The Coastal Carolina Chapter, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) is recruiting new members during its Spring Membership Drive from April 1 to May 31, 2024.
Coast Carolina Chapter is an all-volunteer, nonprofit military, veterans organization and is seeking enthusiastic, dedicated individuals who want to “continue to serve” and give back to their community. While we support MOAA’s national goals, our chapter’s focus is serving the needs of military members, veterans and their families in Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Green, Jones, Lenoir, Pamlico, and Pitt counties.Membership is open to those who hold or have ever held a warrant or commission in any component of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and their surviving spouses.
Our chapter offers college scholarships for military dependents and supports a wide range of veteran related community activities such as Toy for Tots, the North Carolina Veterans Home in Kinston, local high school JROTC and ECU’s ROTC programs, and Wreathes Across America (WWA).

The City of Greenville is seeking artwork submissions to honor the their 250th Anniversary. Artwork should be based on the theme: "What you enjoy most about Greenville." There will be monetary rewards for winners in multiple age groups. The City of Greenville will reserve the right to reproduce the art for public display and the art will be part of an exhibit in the fall at City Hall.
Artwork submissions on 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper. Participants will upload the artwork digitally or deliver it to City Hall (200 W 5th Street). Submissions are eligible from the entire community for ages 18-under.

Join the Historical Society on May 3 & 4 as they celebrate New Bern and showcase her enduring beauty with a very special Heritage Homes Tour encompassing two historic neighborhoods. The 2024 self-guided tour includes very exceptional homes in the Downtown and Ghent Historic Districts, ranging from glorious to tiny, and everything in between. These are livable family homes with rich stories and diverse architecture that illustrate New Bern's amazing history. Add creative floral arrangements, live music, gardens in bloom, historical churches and you’ll enjoy a very special day.New Bern Historical Society’s Executive Director, Mickey Miller explains, “This year’s tour is a feast for the senses! It highlights New Bern’s wonderful diversity of architecture, with exciting homes.”In addition to remarkable homes, you’ll be fascinated by working artists and musicians performing on porches. Beginning May 3 adults are $23. Active-duty military and family members, students under 23, and Historical Society members are $16. Groups of more than 10 are also $16 each.
Oriental's new exhibit explores the long history of lighthouse lore in our area and of the seven lighthouses from Corolla down to Oak Island along the North Carolina Coast. The Steamer Oriental went aground on the Outer Banks near the site of the original Bodie Island Lighthouse.
What will you learn? What lights a lighthouse...what do the various patterns and colorings of the lighthouses mean...which lighthouse and keeper's home was moved... which lighthouses are still in operation...what it's like being a keeper...were there female keepers?

4:00 to 5:30 p.m. - Check-in & RegistrationRegistration and pick-up for t-shirts and goodie bags begins at 4:00 p.m. Then the young runners will join with our volunteer crew of Craven Community College Basic Law Enforcement Training students for games, warms up and a little coaching prior to the race events. The Children will be grouped by age category and the races will start.
RACES5:30 to 7:00 p.m. - SuperKids Fun Run will races start. The first face is set to start at 5:30 p.m. We will start with the youngest group and the other groups will start by age as the preceding race finishes. Medals will be awarded immediately after each race.
There will be five races for the following age groups: 3/4 yrs., 5/6 yrs., 7/8 yrs., 9/10 years, 11/12 years. In addition to participation medals for each runner, there will be a NRBR “GOLD” medal for the winning boy and girl in each age category.
Every First Friday of the month, many art studios and businesses in downtown Elizabeth City are open from 4:00 pm until 7:00 PM-ish for our First Friday ArtWalk! Guest artists along with food and music abound as businesses remain open later and the downtown streets come to life. Come down to see all of our local creativity; stay to dine or sip at one of our 28 independently owned pubs, coffee shops, and restaurant options downtown. The “Harbor Hopper,” ECDI’s SMV transport vehicle will be out and about to help you get from place to place. Rides given from 4:00-7:30 pm. The First Friday ArtWalk is a time when galleries Downtown throw open their doors to showcase new exhibits, often coinciding with free opening receptions. But it’s not just art: enjoy Downtown’s eclectic mix of restaurants and shops along your stroll. Along with the ArtWalk, the Emerald Express Trolley will be running. The trolley will be running from 5:00pm - 8:00pm and will have stops throughout the Downtown district and in front of participating businesses.Emerge Gallery & Art Center is a presenting entity along with Downtown Greenville Partnership, the City of Greenville and the Greenville Pitt County Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
