The Trump Administration has talked about selling off the package delivery component of the mail service, and local union officials said that would drive up mail costs for all Americans.

A bill was filed in the NC House this week that would fund the Rebuild NC program, which is meant to repair or rebuild homes in Southeastern NC damaged in hurricanes Florence and Matthew.

Dozens of longshoremen have been picketing at the port, striking in favor of better work conditions, protections from automation, and higher wages. Workers aren’t striking against the port itself, but against the United States Maritime Alliance, or USMX.

Regulations were previously left to the states resulting in piecemeal enforcement across the country. The new federal regulations are set for implementation by the end of this year.

The ocean has risen nearly 8 inches in just 12 years along the coast of New Hanover County. The rise is happening far faster than the average for the planet, which is less than a quarter inch annually. But Wilmington is impacted by the Gulf Stream- even more so than neighbors like Beaufort or Myrtle Beach, which each saw about 5 and a half inches of sea level rise in the same time period.
