The History, Demise, and Restoration of the American Chestnut
Doug Gillis, President of The Carolinas Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation, will explain how combining traditional selective breeding with the latest in genetic engineering is restoring the once dominant, functionally extinct American Chestnut to our Eastern forests.
Born in Asheville, NC, Doug is a graduate of NC State University with a BS and a MS in Civil Engineering, retiring as the Assistant Director of CDOT (Charlotte), is a wood worker, and writes articles about the American chestnut for the foundation's “Chestnut” magazine.
Join Carolina Nature Coalition and Doug at UUFNB, 308 Meadow St., New Bern on Thursday, March 14th @ 7 PM. This presentation is open to the public, or join us via Zoom. Links will be found on the CNC website and Facebook page.
