America's Boating Course

America's Boating Course
America's Boating Course is a great introduction to local boating knowledge and safe boat operation designed for the new boater and potential boat buyers; it is recommended for experienced boaters and those new to the Crystal Coast.
The NC Wildlife Resources Commission requires boater education for "Any person born on or after January 1, 1988 operating any vessel propelled by a motor of 10 HP or greater." This course meets all NC State requirements and is NASBLA approved.
This course has two components. Classroom sessions Friday 6 - 9 PM and Saturday 8:30 - 6:00 PM on boat selection, rules of the road, aids to navigation, safety, required equipment, and other seamanship topics.
The second component is On-The-Water instruction, which is unique to our club. This training will familiarize students with actual hands-on experience in basic boat handling, docking, fueling, understanding Aids to Navigation, Man-Overboard recovery and anchoring.
Students will take the helm of a club member’s boat under the supervision of the owner and an instructor. Students may arrange in advance to use their own personal boat.
Our instructors are experienced local boaters trained by America's Boating Club, also known as United States Power Squadrons, in existence for over 100 years, helping boaters throughout North America. Our local club, with over 100 members, has been educating Crystal Coast boaters for over 20 years. Our club is a 501 c3 non profit organization.
The course fee is $50 and includes a USCG recognized textbook. Preregistration is required. Call 919-602-6837 or go to www.abc-cc.org/Boater- Education
