Strong winds, heavy rain, coastal flooding and an isolated tornado all possible when Tropical Storm Nicole arrives in ENC
Nicole could arrive before the week is out and Forecaster Casey Dail with the National Weather Service in Newport says “We could get stronger winds, we could get locally heavy rain, we could get additional coastal flood concerns and impacts. There’s also a chance for isolated tornados as we get into Thursday night and Friday.”
It's the 100th anniversary of the Great New Bern Fire
Thursday is the 100th anniversary of the Great Fire of 1922 in New Bern. According to the New Bern Historical Society, the fire forever changed the face of the city; more than 3,000 people were displaced in the fire that burned through the African American community, destroying more than 1,000 buildings and destroying an area that covered 40 blocks.
Federal funds will help efforts to protect endangered crayfish species in the coastal plain
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has awarded roughly $270,000 along with a non-federal match of nearly $90,000 to help the state’s Resources Commission evaluate crayfish.

NCDHHS documents refute Robinson claim that wife's daycare never had any bad reports from the state
Mark Robinson, the Republican candidate for governor, said on Tuesday that a Greensboro daycare owned by his wife never had any bad reports from the state. The Department of Heath and Human Services, however, indicated the day care attempted to falsify information starting in 2005.
