The State Department of Transportation continued work to prepare roads for the snow and ice expected tonight. PRE’s Meredith Radford has more.
NCDOT Division 2 Communications Officer Tim Hass says workers continued brining roads after the rain stopped today and are making sure salt and brine inventories are stocked.
They’ve set up message boards on some of the big bridges in the Morehead City and Beaufort area. He says NCDOT is especially focused on the Newport area, where they expect a significant icing event to occur.
“We’re not through the woods yet. I know a lot of people might think that ‘hey, nothing’s going on right at this very minute,’ but there’s more weather incoming and we need to be ready for it.”
Hass says this is a fairly unprecedented weather event for Eastern NC. The key message is, stay off the roads.
He says clear roads help workers to complete their job. And, he added that the best way to drive on ice, is to not drive on the ice.
