The Carteret County Health Department reported four additional COVID-19-related deaths in the county in a news release Thursday. Three of the residents were in their 70s and one was in their 40s. All of the deaths had underlying health conditions.
This brings the total to 68 COVID-19 deaths in the county since the pandemic began. Carteret County also recorded 48 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, making their current active case count 335. As of Thursday there were 23 COVID-19-positive patients being treated at Carteret Health Care, and almost all were unvaccinated. Carteret’s Public Health Department and hospital officials continue to emphasize that the rates of infection and hospitalization have been much higher for unvaccinated people compared to vaccinated people.
