Alina Selyukh

Alina Selyukh is a business correspondent at NPR, where she covers retail, low-wage work, global brands and other aspects of the consumer economy. Her work has been recognized by the Gracie Awards, the National Headliner Award and the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.

She's covered Walmart's change of policy for workers with disabilities, Amazon and Starbucks unionization pushes, the post-pandemic Great Resignation and what it takes to live on minimum wage. Selyukh has shopped the going-out-of-business sales at Bed Bath & Beyond and Party City, delivered groceries with an Instacart gig worker, tracked years of shrinkflation and tariffs at one superstore and spent 24 hours inside Mall of America.

Selyukh joined NPR in 2015 as a tech reporter. Previously she reported for Reuters in New York and Washington, for CNN in Moscow, for ABC News in Nebraska and for Nebraska's PBS station, NET. She launched her career at age 13, freelancing for local newspapers and TV in her home town of Samara in Russia. Selyukh studied journalism and political science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
