It’s been two years since Hurricane Florence devastated Eastern North Carolina, and several non-profit organizations are still helping residents recover from the storm. Fuller Center Disaster Rebuilders has invested $1.5 million dollars in rebuilding 63 homes in Beaufort, Carteret, Craven and Pamlico counties. Baptists on Mission has completed work on 115 homes. Construction is ongoing at about 70 homes, with more than 100 waiting for repairs. Catholic Charities has assisted more than 3,200 people in six eastern North Carolina counties with financial aid to help with new housing, utilities, and food assistance. And, Habitat for Humanity has rehomed several families. The Craven County Disaster Recovery Alliance (CCDRA) helped four families get back into their homes in August. The non-profit is currently working on several cases, with about a dozen more pending grant money. CCDRA estimates nearly 1,400 households are still awaiting repairs across Eastern North Carolina.
