June 2 through 6 6, 9am - 5pm each day

In this class, you will build a sculptural lamp in the form of a pod. Students will learn how to do tapered bent laminations to bend the curved pieces. Topics covered include learning how to: safely rip thin strips on the table saw, use a block plane, spokeshave, lash, and work with mulberry fiber paper to make a seamless lamp shade. Plus, how to properly wire a lamp. No experience needed, beginners welcome.

Experience Creativity on Every Corner
Join us on the First Friday of each month from 5:00pm – 8:00pm (and later!) to explore local Downtown galleries, museums, restaurants, breweries, and music venues to experience some of the best creativity and talent in our region. Take a self-guided walking tour, or catch a FREE ride on the Emerald Express Trolley to quickly get from stop to stop to find new art exhibition openings and receptions, artist and maker markets, live music, open mic opportunities, and more!

Gone, But not Forgotten:
The Changing Landscape of Oriental, NC over the Past 125 Years
February 10– June 1 2024

With photo and narrative this special exhibit tells the story of the evolution of the town of Oriental since its founding over 125 years ago. Homes, businesses, and scenery are gone from the landscape but still fondly remembered. Many did not survive because of weather, fire, neglect, or advances in technology. Take a look at the past and see what Oriental once was “back in the day.”

Focusing on slow stitch practice, Sashiko style embroidery, and visible mending, students will learn to repurpose or repair beloved, un-used, worn-out or simply interesting textiles and small found objects into artwork. Topics will additionally include incorporating photographs and text into textiles and understanding fibers. Slow stitch collage is a mindful, simple practice that engages hands, heart and memory into a tactile experience creating dynamic, beautiful, personal artwork.
