this is the inaugural Tate Holbrook Annual Sickle Cell Update. It is patient/provider conference and will feature international experts in research and care of individuals with sickle cell disease. Talks and discussion will include latest research, clinical management, psychosocial management, and patient involvement in care and advocacy for sickle cell disease.
Sickle cell disease is an inherited disorder or red blood cells and is the most commonly diagnosed condition in newborn screening. It affects all organ systems in the body and is characterized by recurrent severe painful events amongst other symptoms. ECU Health is one of the largest sickle cell centers in the country and this conference is named after the founding director of the center, Dr. Tate Holdbrook.
