The MCAS Cherry Point is conducting two prescribed burns.
Officials say they will burn about 3,000 acres of marshland on Piney Island on Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. and smoke may affect people in Ocracoke and around the Outer Banks.
They also plan to burn 50 acres of forestland on the Marine Corps Auxiliary Landing Field Bogue on Sunday. Officials say some areas of Emerald Isle could be impacted by the smoke, which could linger into Monday. That burn is also scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
