Sports Documentaries Flood TV As Pandemic Keeps Arenas Closed

Showtime’s documentary "Basketball County: In the Water" premieres on Friday. It depicts the basketball scene in the Maryland county that produced Kevin Durant and many other NBA stars.

The film is one in a spate of recent sports documentaries. ESPN will release a two-part documentary on disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong next month. New mobile-only platform Quibi also produced its own series, “Blackballed.”

While these documentaries can’t replace live sports, they may whet fans’ appetites. NPR’s Eric Deggans (@Deggans) talks to host Tonya Mosley about sports documentaries in an era without sports.
