The Interior Department will soon remove the Yellowstone grizzly bear from its endangered species list. When the bears first received protected status in 1975, there were fewer than 150 grizzlies in Yellowstone National Park. Forty-two years later, there are more than 700.

Here & Now‘s Peter O’Dowd visited Yellowstone last year, and spoke to the park’s bear biologist, Kerry Gunther, about how the grizzly population has changed over the decades and how to stay safe.
