Veterans In Philadelphia Create Support Network For Readjusting To Civilian Life

It’s well-known that many returning service members feel like the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is failing them. There are the long wait times to get appointments at the VA, a healthcare philosophy that some say is overly reliant on medication and a high rate of suicide among veterans.

In Philadelphia, some veterans have decided to take matters into their own hands. They’ve pulled together to start groups to support fellow veterans as they readjust to civilian life, and fill the gaps where they feel the government is falling short.
