More Than One Million Refugees Have Flooded Europe In 2015

The International Organization today said the number of refugees and migrants entering Europe this year tops one million, as of yesterday. The worst refugee crisis to hit Europe since World War II has strained countries across Europe, even countries such as Germany, which originally welcomed people fleeing conflict in the Middle East and Africa.

NPR’s Joanna Kakissis and the BBC’s Nick Thorpe, who have both covered the crisis this year, check in with Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson from Athens and Budapest, respectively.

Note: This BBC interview can be heard in the Here & Now podcast or with the WBUR app.
