After Nearly 30 Years Klezkamp To Sound Final Note

Tonight is the last night of Chanukah and in the last week the soundtrack at many Chanukah parties has included Klezmer, the traditional instrumental music of East European Jews.

Klezmer music was fading out in America after World War II, but a revival was sparked in the late 1970’s by young Jews from the bluegrass and old-time music scenes.

For close to 30 years now Klezmer musicians have gathered in New York, in a Catskills hotel during Christmas week, for an event known as KlezKamp. This year’s KlezKamp will be the last. Jon Kalish, a freelance reporter,  has more on the story.
