Obama Urges Congress Not To 'Block' Immigration Bill
President Obama is trying to keep the pressure on Congress to overhaul the immigration system without interfering with progress on the legislation. Surrounded by business, labor and religious leaders, the president on Tuesday called on the Senate to pass the bill. The Senate has moved the measure forward, but lawmakers will propose many amendments before any final vote.

Gulf Coast States Get Creative With BP Oil Spill Money
Oil giant BP has agreed to pay $1 billion for coastal restoration along the Gulf of Mexico because of the 2010 oil spill. But the nature of some of the projects, including boat ramps and a beachfront hotel, has some environmental groups raising questions about what counts as coastal restoration.

GOP Sen. Charles Grassley has floated legislation that would cut three seats from the important D.C. Circuit appeals court — just as President Obama prepares to announce his nominees for those jobs. The court is now evenly balanced with four appointees each from Republican and Democratic presidents.

Al-Qaida Letter Reprimands Difficult Employee
While AP West Africa Bureau Chief Rukmini Callimachi was covering the French military intervention in Mali, she gathered six trash bags full of abandoned al-Qaida documents from buildings used by the organization. Included was a copy of a scathing letter sent to Mokhtar Belmokhtar, which described him as a prima donna. He later quit the organization and formed his own group — carrying out attacks that killed 101 people.

New York A Capella Group Sings About Business
The group started performing together at the tech company Foursquare. The Wall Street Journal says the group tabulates votes on which songs to perform by using a spreadsheet.

China's Leaders Promise To Speed Up Economic Reform
The Communist Party's new leadership has pledged to change China's slowing economy by putting a greater emphasis on private enterprise and reining in huge but far less profitable state-owned businesses. Economists say the party has no choice but to update if it wants to stay in power, but they doubt that a genuine overhaul is in the works.
