Ruth Ann Steinhagen was 19 when she shot Eddie Waitkus, a Philadelphia Phillie. She had been obsessed with him, and lured Waitkus to a Chicago hotel room. Initially judged to be insane, she was never tried. For about 60 years, she lived a quiet life in Chicago.

Artists Disturbed And Inspired By Syria's Violence
Three one-act plays recently performed in Beirut are based on the actual words of Syrians. The show was performed in a bunkerlike space to replicate the conditions artists making such work endure. The actress could not be named. A TV series also takes on Syrian politics — Top Goon is an ensemble of finger puppets who lampoon President Bashar Assad. The filmmakers are also anonymous. To be caught with one of these puppets might be worse than being caught with a stinger missile.

France Makes First Showing At World Baseball Classic
When you think about France, baseball doesn't leap to mind, but the sport has a long history there, dating back to 1889. During World War I, French soldiers played baseball with American doughboys. And now there is a French baseball league. But the games are never televised and the fans are mostly friends and family. But this week, for the first time, France sent its top team to the qualifying matches for the World Baseball Classic, a tournament that was created when baseball ceased to be an Olympics sport. For many on the French team, this is the closest they will ever get to professional baseball.

With Iranian presidential voting just over four months away, it's clear that top politicians are not heeding the supreme leader's call to maintain decorum. Recent days have seen a long-simmering feud between the Parliament speaker and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad erupt into the open with secret videos alleging corruption by the speaker's powerful family and the brief arrest of a key Ahmadinajad ally. Analysts wonder, if the gloves are coming off this early in the campaign, what the coming weeks will bring.
