NCDMV closes Hookerton license plate agency due to possible law violations

Hookerton NC LPA Facebook

The North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles closed the Hookerton License Plate Agency in Greene County this week for possible violations of state law. PRE’s Meredith Radford reports that this is the second time NCDMV has closed this location.

An investigation by the NCDMV’s License and Theft Bureau found that activity at the Hookerton License Plate Agency warranted closing the office and canceling its contract, according to a news release. NCDMV has not given more detail on the ongoing investigation. DMV representatives will be performing a final inventory audit of the agency and removing equipment and supplies that belong to the state.

This license plate agency location closed once before in 2018 due to possible law violations. The town reapplied to operate a new plate agency and was given a new contract for the same location in 2019. There are nearby license plate agencies in Kinston, Farmville and Greenville. The DMV also offers services online. For Public Radio East, I’m Meredith Radford
