Governor Roy Cooper requested a federal major disaster declaration from President Biden today because of the damage Tropical Storm Fred caused western North Carolina, according to a press release. Governor Cooper requested both the Individual Assistance program to support homeowners and renters and the Public Assistance program to reimburse costs for repairs to public facilities and infrastructure in the area. Five people died because of Tropical Storm Fred and one person remains missing, according to the press release. It's estimated that damages exceed $20 million to infrastructure.
