Atlantic Hurricane Season Draws To A Close
November 30 is the final day of the extremely active Atlantic Hurricane season, and the National Hurricane Center reports a record-breaking 30 named storms and 12 land falling storms. It’s the fifth consecutive year with an above normal hurricane season. While several tropical systems impacted Eastern North Carolina this year, the main threat came from Hurricane Isaias in August. The category one storm caused widespread power outages, spawned several tornadoes, and killed four people. Even though Monday marks the official close of the Atlantic hurricane season, the Center said tropical storms may develop past that date.
