Jacksonville Announces Plan To Consolidate Public Transit Services

City of Jacksonville

Construction has begun on the city of Jacksonville’s new home for transportation services. Jacksonville Station is the city’s first-ever attempt at consolidating the area’s public transportation services. The 15,000-square-foot structure will house Amtrak, Greyhound, and other means of local public transit. Favorable construction costs have allowed the design of a highly energy efficient and hurricane resistant structure. The facility will be constructed on the site of old railway lines leading to Camp Lejeune. Construction of the marine corps base during the 1940’s helped grow Jacksonville’s freight train service. In honor of the location’s history, the building will include a specialty suite for military personnel and reflect the design of a 1940’s train station.  Jacksonville Station will be complete in 2022.
