State Transportation officials announced they are holding a virtual public meeting on June 4 from 6-8 p.m. to provide updates and discuss the Rodanthe "Jug Handle" Bridge project. The 2.4 mile span is currently under construction on the Outer Banks. The bridge is expected to be complete in the fall of 2021. It extends over the Pamlico Sound between the southern end of the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and Rodanthe. Once the bridge is constructed, the existing N.C. 12 road at the southern end of the refuge will be removed and the land returned to its natural state.
