North Carolina farmers whose crops and livestock were affected by Hurricane Florence can now apply for assistance. While the General Assembly has yet to approved funding for the Agricultural Disaster Program, the application process has begun for farmers who suffered losses to livestock and crops planted but not harvested before September 13th. The State Department of Agriculture estimates that Florence caused $1.1 billion dollars in damage to commodities. The one-time program will provide direct assistance to farmers in nearly 50 counties that received a Presidential-disaster declaration. The deadline for farmers to apply is December 10th.
