ECU-Pitt County To Start New Early College High School Program

East Carolina University

A new early college high school option in Pitt County has received all necessary approvals to admit its first class of students this Fall.

At the University of North Carolina Board of Governors meeting on Friday, members approved Pitt County's Innovation Early College High School, which will allow students to earn up to 60 college credit hours from East Carolina University while completing their high school studies.

The five-year program will accept ninth grade students who are first-generation college applicants, at risk of dropping out or seeking accelerated classes.

The county’s board of education and the state’s department of public instruction have already approved the new program, which will admit its first class of 55 students on August 8.
