3rd Annual SciREN Workshop Connects Teachers and Local Scientists

The University of North Carolina’s Institute of Marine Sciences, East Carolina University and the Duke University Marine Lab are holding a workshop to bring K-12 teachers together with over 50 local marine and environmental scientists.  The third annual Scientific Research and Education Network event will provide educators with lesson plans on the most current research available.  SciREN is the brainchild of Ph.D candidates Justin Ridge and Ethan Theuerkauf.  Jared Brumbaugh spoke with both of them about the upcoming event.

The Scientific Research and Education Network, SciREN for short, is an annual event that allows educators to connect with researchers, learn about some of the latest developments in marine science and explore creative ways to share this new knowledge in their classrooms. Jared Brumbaugh is the Assistant General Manager for Public Radio East. An Eastern North Carolina native, Jared began his professional public radio career at Public Radio East while he was a student at Craven Community College earning his degree in Electronics Engineering Technology. During his 15+ years at Public Radio East, he has served as an award-winning journalist, producer, and on-air host. When not at the station, Jared enjoys hiking, traveling, and honing his culinary skills.
