Governor Cooper Tells The Unvaccinated To Get The COVID-19 Shot If Able

Positive COVID-19 cases continue to rise in North Carolina, with a daily positive rate of more than 12 percent. PRE’s Meredith Radford reports that many eastern North Carolina counties are among those in the state with the highest positive case numbers in the last few weeks.

North Carolina added more than 3,400 cases to its COVID-19 total on Wednesday. At Governor Roy Cooper’s media briefing, he emphasized that the rise in cases is driven by the unvaccinated.

“Look, we can’t rest until this pandemic is behind us. And the only way that happens is that we get enough people vaccinated that we push this virus off the cliff."

One area of concern for the unvaccinated is in schools. The Governor has recommended that students and staff in grades k-8 wear masks indoors, but has not gone as far as to mandate it. There also is no mandate for virtual learning as an option at this time.  Cooper said it’s up to school districts to implement masks and other precautions against COVID-19. He also said they strongly encourage in-person learning for the benefit of students.  For PRE, I’m Meredith Radford
