The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame has announced their 2018 inductees.
The 2018 class will bring 15 new members to the Sports Hall located at the Museum of History in Raleigh. Among the inductees are Joey Cheek, a Greensboro native who won three Olympic medals in speed skating during the 2002 and 2006 Winter Games. Also named was Joe West, born in Asheville and a Rose High in Greenville graduate. West is the longest tenured umpire currently working in Major League Baseball with over 40 seasons. The late Paul Jones will also be honored. Jones is an East Carolina University graduate who spent 38 seasons coaching basketball at Kinston High School between 1957 and 1995, winning 662 games and two state titles. The induction ceremony will take place May 4 at the Raleigh Convention Center.
