A community design workshop is planned in one of towns hit hardest by Hurricane Matthew.
470 homes were damaged or destroyed when water inundated the historic town of Princeville after Matthew. Beginning August 25th, the town will host a 5-day workshop to discuss plans to develop a 52 acre tract of land provided by the state and federal government - to locate public facilities, commercial areas and housing away from flood-prone areas. Princeville Town Manager Gregory Bethea says planners will use public input to come up with three scenarios for development.
“People will get a chance to respond back and make comments about those. And hopefully at the end, the community along with experts will agree which is best of the scenarios.”
Bethea adds the new parcel will adjoin historic areas of the community. The design workshop takes place 6:00 am to 8:00pm Friday through Tuesday and is open to the public.
