City of Washington Recieves Grant for Historic District

The City of Washington will soon resurvey its Historic District using grant money from the National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Fund.  The grant amounts to 11,000 dollars, and the District is one of the largest of its kind in the state. According to Washington’s Community Development Planner Jennifer Brenan, the survey may take up to a year to complete.

“We will be hiring a consultant to perform the work, and depending on where they come from, if they have to travel long distances, if there have been a lot of changes to the district, it would take a little bit longer to update.”

The city hopes to provide walking tour services soon after the survey concludes. Washington obtained the grant via its status as a certified local government, and the grant’s required 4,000 dollars in matching funds came from the city’s general fund.
