INTRO – If you’re traveling by road this Memorial Day weekend, you’ll probably have more company than last year. George Olsen has more.
The motor club AAA Carolinas is estimating 977,700 North Carolina motorists will be on the road this Memorial Day weekend. That’s up 1.8% from last year and the highest number of travelers since 2005. That’s despite gas prices being about 20 cents higher than they were at this time last year. The Memorial Day weekend marks the start of a particularly hazardous period for teen drivers, with AAA saying seven of the 10 most deadly days of the year occurring between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Last year 14 people died on state roadways during the Memorial Day holiday… the highest number in four years. I’m George Olsen.
