A new police chief starts work at East Carolina University in January. George Olsen has more.
ECU announced that a retiring New Jersey State Police officer will lead the University Police force effective January 21. Major Gerald Lewis is the commanding officer of the New Jersey Police Office of Community Affairs. He’ll retire after 26 years of service early next month. Among his career highlights was leading efforts to strengthen ties between the New Jersey Police force and the community following a racial profiling scandal. Lewis has family roots in the Perquimans County town of Hertford. Lewis says he plans to meet with Greenville and Pitt County colleagues during his first weeks at his new job. I’m George Olsen.
