Boaters on the Pamlico Sound and Neuse River should avoid Bombing Target 11 as live military training gets underway.
Through Friday, people near Atlantic, Cedar Island, Beaufort, and Havelock will notice a major spike in military activity. The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit is running low-flying aircraft drills at Outlying Landing Field Atlantic until midnight, causing heavy traffic on Highway 70.
Additionally, base officials said amphibious assault watercraft are moving through Cherry Point waterways, and boaters must stay clear of the restricted waters around Bombing Target 11 to avoid danger from live exercises.
