A hometown hero from Jacksonville will receive the nation’s highest space honor this Friday.
NASA has confirmed that President Donald Trump will present the Congressional Space Medal of Honor to the four crew members of the historic Artemis Two mission. Front and center at the ceremony will be Jacksonville native Christina Koch, who served as mission specialist during the ten-day lunar flyby that successfully wrapped up last April.
Koch and her crew mates made history as the first people to travel beyond the Moon in over fifty years, shattering the record for the farthest distance humans have ever journeyed into deep space.
Only thirty other astronauts in American history, including Neil Armstrong, have ever received this prestigious award. The formal presentation is Friday morning at eleven o'clock.
