Eastern North Carolina under a Level Two Slight Risk for severe storms Monday

The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City said there is the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms along the sea breeze on Monday. Timing for strongest storms will be in the afternoon and evening, with damaging wind gusts being the primary concern. Make sure you are staying weather aware today and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

The National Weather Service has placed eastern North Carolina under a Level Two Slight Risk for severe storms Monday.

A stalled frontal boundary near the coast is clashing with highly unstable air, threatening the area with strong, scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and through the early evening.

The primary danger is damaging wind gusts capable of downing trees and power lines, though isolated large hail cannot be ruled out. While the tornado threat is very low, unpredictable summer storms can change rapidly.

People from New Bern down to the coast should secure outdoor furniture, keep emergency alerts enabled on their phones, and be ready to move to an interior room if warnings are issued.
