The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office says the water at the local detention facility is safe and running clear after concerns about discoloration.
Staff at the jail responded Monday afternoon to reports of discolored water by testing the system and alerting City of Kinston utility officials. Authorities said the water quickly cleared up and posed no danger to inmates or staff.
As a precaution, Kinston city workers are flushing the main water lines surrounding the detention center to prevent the issue from returning, and jail officials will continue to monitor the water supply.
