New exhibits celebrating African American heritage are opening in Washington this weekend. The P.S. Jones Museum of African American Education is unveiling a major expansion focused on preserving local history through the generations.
The centerpiece of the expansion is the Black Oral History Project, which features 32 deeply personal recorded interviews from across Beaufort County. Visitors will be able to scan QR codes next to the displays to listen to these stories directly on their cell phones.
The museum is also debuting a state-of-the-art interactive big screen alongside a special exhibit honoring the educational legacy of the nearby Aurora community.
