A legendary military training exercise is returning to Duplin County and other parts of the state this weekend.
Special Forces candidates from the U.S. Army’s Special Warfare Center will head into local communities for Robin Sage—their final, grueling test before becoming Green Berets. The large-scale simulation drops soldiers into a fictional, politically unstable country called Pineland to test their real-world combat and survival skills.
Because the training happens in neighborhoods, military officials want to give people in Duplin County a heads-up that they might hear blank gunfire or see flares over the weekend.
Soldiers who pass the intense multi-day exercise will graduate and receive their first Special Forces assignments.
