Meteorologists are keeping a close watch on the deep Atlantic as tropical activity begins to pick up. The National Hurricane Center is tracking three separate weather disturbances for potential development over the next week.
The systems stretch across the ocean basin, with disturbances spinning near Bermuda, the central Atlantic, and the Cabo Verde Islands. Forecasters say development chances remain low, between ten and 30 percent, as strong upper-level wind shear and dry air act as a shield to prevent significant strengthening.
Weather officials emphasize that there is no immediate threat to eastern North Carolina or the local coastline. The next storm on the Atlantic list will be named Cristobal.
