First responders from across eastern North Carolina formed a massive honor procession Sunday to escort the body of Nash County Emergency Medical Services Director Dale Griffin back to his home county.
The 60-year-old director accidentally drowned on Saturday while visiting Shackleford Banks in Carteret County. Griffin spent nearly forty years working in emergency services and had served as the Nash County EMS director since late 2023.
Sunday afternoon, emergency crews from Carteret, Craven, Beaufort, and Nash counties positioned personnel along highways and joined the escort to pay their respects.
Local officials say Griffin dedicated his life to protecting others and his passing leaves a major void in the community. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
