Bees in the wall? A North Carolina family found themselves cleaning up a sticky mess

AYESHA RASCOE, HOST:

Bees are kind of having a moment. First, a colony of bees at Chase Field and Phoenix delayed a game between the Dodgers and the Diamonbacks for almost two hours this past week. Then we learned about another bee situation, and this one is the stuff of nightmares.

RASCOE: Three-year-old Saylor Class complained to her parents that there were monsters living in her bedroom wall in their Charlotte, N.C., home. But since they've been watching the film "Monsters, Inc." recently, her mom and dad didn't think much of it. Turns out, they should have listened a little more closely. The monster in the wall was actually 50,000 bees that were holed up behind Saylor's bedroom wall. Her mom, Ashley, is using TikTok to chronicle the family's attempt to rid themselves of the insects with the help of a beekeeper. In addition to the bees, they've also had to deal with over 100 pounds of sticky honeycomb. Dismissing her daughter's warnings turned out to be expensive.

Ashley posted that it cost $20,000 and several return visits by the beekeeper, but the bees are finally gone. The family is just about done cleaning up a very sticky situation.
