Independence Day drunk driving patrols are underway

This week is North Carolina's annual Halloween Booze It & Lose It Campaign. To discourage drivers from getting behind the wheel after drinking, law enforcement from various departments across the state will be stepping up patrols and using checkpoints and saturation patrols now through October 31.

To discourage drivers from getting behind the wheel after drinking, law enforcement from various departments across the state will be stepping up patrols and using checkpoints and saturation patrols now through July 9.

The Fourth of July is a busy holiday and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol is out patrolling the highways looking for intoxicated drivers.

Operation firecracker is underway through July ninth.

Officials with the North Carolina Highway Patrol are urging the public not to drink and drive, and to plan ahead for a safe trip home after a party.
