The Jacksonville Police Department and local ministries are holding a prayer vigil on Wednesday and they are asking the community join them in unity to pray for peace.
It comes as authorities in Memphis continue to investigate the death of Tyre Nichols after he was beaten by police officers in the Tennessee city.
Public Safety Director Mike Yaniero said its important that the department remember that people in the community are the reason police serve, and it’s their duty to ensure safety for everyone in the city.
The community vigil is at noon on the front steps of the Center for Public Safety on Marine Boulevard.
