U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said some infrastructure projects are so large and complex that they defy traditional funding systems, and so significant that they become iconic parts of the American landscape.

The STERLING project was one of nine nationally significant projects selected for this first year of the Mega Grant program; it will replace the Alligator River Bridge on U.S. Highway 64 with a modern high-rise fixed-span bridge.

The project will also provide broadband access to thousands of people along U.S. 64 from I-95 to N.C. 12 on the Outer Banks.

An award-winning journalist and mother of four, Annette moved to eastern North Carolina in 2019 to be closer to family – in particular, her two young grandchildren. It’s possible that a -27 day with a -68 windchill in Minnesota may have also played a role in that decision. In her spare time, Annette does a lot of kiddo cuddling, reading, and producing the coolest Halloween costumes anyone has ever seen.
